Not one of my personal favourites, but a surefire crowd pleaser none the less.
Johnny Borrell managed to squeeze his ego into a tiny Manchester arena last night and seemingly deliver exactly what around 20,000 fans came to see. Razorlight, although completely devoid of originality and imagination, cobble together a strange hybrid of their obvious influences. Fortunately their influences are "The Greats". The band's sound borrows from the likes of The Who, and maybe a few more contemporary indie rock bands, but Borrell's Jagger/Mercury/Iggy persona is the centre of attention. And the fan's loved it!
I wasn't entirely impressed, despite wanting to be The Who, Razorlight simply aren't. Although they're very compitent and tight musicians, there's just a certain something lacking from their performance which I can't quite put my finger on. If this was 1969 I'm sure Razorlight would be
the band to see, but this isn't 1969 and Razorlight are just this generation's Kula Shaker.
