bands that were only released one good album

A lot of bands seem to come along with a cracking debut, and then seem to lose it

It seems to be more common for bands that start off on an indie label, playing small gigs, then get 'discovered' by some jumped up journalist, get much more popular than they should be, and it all goes wrong

some examples I can think of

Stereophonics

Coldplay

The Killers

Oasis

anyone else got any bands they think have lost it?

I could name quite a few bands that never even had it.

I think No Doubt's album Tragic Kingdom was better than any other album they did, although I guess they're still going, so I'll see what they come up with next.

Going back to the 70's, I think Boston's first album was better than anything else they did. And Edgar Winter's White Trash album They Only Come Out At Night comes to my mind too.

Somebody said you have about 20 years to make your first album, and just a few months to make your second.

I liked Oasis' first two.

The Longpigs only did one decent album.

Bang on with Stereophonics and The Killers. The other two I'd say were consistently shite.

But you can probably put Bloc Party on that list. First album is excellent, second one went downhill but still had a few good tracks on it. Third one is turd, can't get into it at all.

At least they had one good album though. Oasis were always shite, and Shed Seven went downhill the most when all the fucking scally Oasis fans turned up at their gigs.

I used to enjoy Shed Seven gigs until Cast supported and after that mostly wankers turned up wearing Ben Sherman shirts.
