Luara Nyro
I bought a couple Laura Nyro CDs after hearing Elton John and Elvis Costello rave about her on Spectacle.
She had great success as a pop songwriter but for some reason was under-rated as a singer.
She wrote Wedding Bell Blues (Fifth Dimension), And When I Die (Blood, Sweat & Tears), Stoney End (Streisand) and Eli's Coming (Three Dog Night) to name a few.
She passed away in 97. Has anybody else here listened to any of her albums?

Found this. Sounds country, i've never heard of her before.

My only friend through teenage nights,
And everything I had to know, I heard it on my radio'
Re: Luara Nyro
Thanks for posting the YouTube video. That's one of her songs that was covered by Streisand.
I'd known about her for decades because her name kept popping up as a songwriter on some of my albums along with people like Tom Waits, Billy Joel (before The Stranger album) and John Prine.

Hi Ricardo, thanks for bringing her to the attention of more people.
Enjoyed the stoney end vid, plus loads more on youtube
Just had a water fight over the park with a bunch of local kids.
I won!
No one's a match for me and my kettle.
Re: Luara Nyro
Speaking of the song in the video above, I read online the other day that it's about Laura's struggle with Lesbian tendencies.
Apparently the term "stoney end" refers to being stoned as in biblical times for not conforming to prevailing expectations.
I didn't know that she may have been bi - I know she was married to a carpenter for a while - I assume that was a man.![]()
