    Default Longest Movie

What is the longest movie you have watched?

I think for me, the longest movie I have watched was King Kong.

For the record. the longest movie shown commercially is "The Cure for Imsomnia " (what an appropriate title) in 1997.

    Length of movie: 87 hours.

    Is it for sale anywhere?
    Or better, free to download?

"Empire" made in 1964 by Andy Warhol was pretty long.

In a very strange experiment by Andy Warhol, Empire is literally one continuous shot of New York's Empire State Building for eight hours and five minutes. Watching the same shot (which Warhol filmed on July 25 and 26, 1964 from the 42nd floor of the Time Life Building) the film is a test for the audience who sees how long they can sit and watch the same image for a long period of time. The only rewards for patience come from the occasional flicker of the lights on the building or Warhol's reflection in the glass as he changes the reel on the camera:

There is a sequel (of sorts) out on DVD:

The trailer features a voice-over from Jeff Buckley reading Edgar Allan Poe.

    Looks better than the original.

If you want to count Stephen King's "The Stand" as a movie, since it's available on DVD now, although it was originally a miniseries, that would be the longest straight watch for me. All six hours in one day, with pee breaks.

I think Ben Hur lasts for 200 minutes or so and that movie was made almost 50 years ago.

Try Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai. It's a Japanese film that is 207 minutes long (unedited - which is the version we watched at uni) and was then taken by John Sturges and remade into a Western - the better known Magnificent Seven. I think the general release version runs at around 150-160 minutes.

It's actually an excellent film and didn't seem as long as the most recent version of King Kong which I fell asleep in

Well said, daisyduke; the earlier films of Kurosawa are really awsome (7 Samurai, Ran and Rashimon). His later films are so-so.

The longest movie that I have watched is the Ten Commandments. I have forgotten how many hours I have watched it but I’m sure that this one of the longest movies. I almost forgot to mention Gone with the Wind.

The Burning of the Red Lotus Temple is the longest movie I've watched. I'm planning to buy a DVD of the movie The Cure of Insomia. My friend says it is good to watch.
