The Lost Boys
"Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die.
It's fun to be a vampire."
This week I'm reviewing the Joel Schumacher classic teen goth flick The Lost Boys (special edition widescreen with collectors pack).
1987 saw a cool Vampire film contest between Near Dark and the clear winner The Lost Boys. Near Dark was a superb film itself, but the photogenic cast and fabulous soundtrack of The Lost Boys put it a good head and shoulders above it's rival in the box office takings.
In 1987 you couldn't go wrong casting teen heart throbs with the name Corey. Corey's Feldman and Haim were the dog's nonsense in this year, and The Lost Boys is one of their best outings. The slick mix of comedy and "horror" was a huge hit, the Brat Pack "juniors" who made up the cast were typical Teenie Mag fodder and the film looked like a Durran Durran video. Which was a huge plus in 1987.
The film takes it's title from the lost boys in Peter Pan. A group of youngsters who will never grow old, never have adult cares or responsibilities, and are free to live out their existence in joyous youthful persuits. Sounds almost idyllic, the only drawback? You must drink the blood of human's to survive. Not quite what lead character Michael(Jason Patric) has in mind when he joins a gang of bikers in an attempt to woo vampire hottie Star(Jami Gertz).
The plot unravels as Michael tries to prevent himself becoming a full vampire by tracking down the head vampire and destroying him, with the help of little brother Sam(Corey Haim) and the fabulous Frog brothers(Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander). To do this they must go up against the gang of vampires who first initiated Michael of course. The gang which include 24 star Kiefer Sutherland and Bill not Ted, Alex Winters, are keen to press gang Michael into their ranks but who is the actual "head vampire" and how will he be stopped?
*I would highly recommend watching the rival to The Lost Boys, Near Dark, but this film is surely a must have to every respectable video collection in the land. Get your very own copy (in glorious VHS widescreen) by answering this very simple question:
Who did Alex Winters play in "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"?
PM me your answers and one lucky member will be plucked from the hat in precisely one weeks time. Good Luck everybody!
*Congratulations to Bogmarsh who correctly identified Ewan McGregor's character in the Star Wars films. It was indeed Obi Wan Kenobi.
Bogmarsh wins his very own copy of Trainspotting on wonderful VHS.*

Re: The Lost Boys
The Lost Boys was well ahead of its time and Kiefer was young and evil. Good movie. I don't know about top 3, lol, but a quality flick.

Re: The Lost Boys
Wasnt really a huge fan of this one, sure it was fairly cool for its time, but I saw it recently and it seemed a bit dated.

Re: The Lost Boys
Classic all the way for Generation Xwing. Popcorn movie with gore. Great motorbike sequence.
I heard a rumour they were going to make Lost Girls, I hope they don't.
In addition Near Dark was also excellent, and has not dated at all. With the exception of Underworld, I can't think of another decent Vamp flick, can anyone remind me of any?
Re: The Lost Boys
how about this one!
hahaha - obviously I am joking, lol
