No Peter Jackson For Hobbit Film

Peter Jackson won't be employed by New Line Cinema to direct the JRR Tolkien novel, The Hobbit. Mr Jackson had refused to discuss the Hobbit film until the case was settled with New Line.
New Line said it wanted to move on as it had "limited time" to make the movie. Mr Jackson, who is a devoted fan of Tolkien was removed from the Hobbit project by New Line who also hold the rights to a second Lord of The Rings prequel.
In the book it tells how Bilbo Baggins took the ring from Gollum. Also, Ian McKellen is said to be sad at the decision that New Line isn't employing Peter Jackson. McKellen said on his website: "I'm very sad as i should have relished revisiting Middle Earth with Peter again. It's hard to imagine any other director matching his achievement in Tolkien country".
The announcement has also angered fans and has led to an online petition of over 1,000 people asking for Mr Jackson to be reinstated. The petition created calls for The Hobbit to be filmed "the way it was meant to be, or not at all". A website has also been set up urging a boycott of New Line, and fans have used forums and weblogs to question the studio's judgement.

That's a real shame. Jackson's the engineer of perhaps 3 of the greatest movies made in recent times. Anyone else will pale by comparison.
