Re: Timey's Calendarium
June seems to be full of birthdays for me. It's my mums, my husbands and my husbands grandmas, all around the same time.

Re: Timey's Calendarium
That's what May is like for us. About four birthdays and a wedding anniversary. We're skint.

Re: Timey's Calendarium
It's the longest day of year. In Aberdeen the sun will rise at 04:13 and set at 22:06. In Saxon times this was the "Lithe" festival, and it is still celebrated in Scandinavian countries in particular. From today though, the days will start getting shorter, but it will not be noticeable for a while.

It was still quite light when I went to bed last night.

Re: Timey's Calendarium
Welcome to August. (I forgot about July).
July and August both used to be called Quintillis and Sextilis respectively, meaning the fifth and sixth months (from when March was the first month). These were renamed at different times for Julius and Augustus Caesar, who each had made reforms to the calendar.
Today is the Celtic festival of Lúnasa, marking the beginning of harvest time in the northern parts of Europe. This was traditionally a time of making bread, and the English equivalent, Lammas, comes from Old English Hláfmaes, meaning "Loaf mass" or "Bread festival".

Re: Timey's Calendarium
Well, September is here, and according to the Met Office, it is now Autumn. Well, the temperature hasn't dropped at all - still around 20 degrees here. There has been a lot of fog though. There is hope for an Indian summer yet, and September is often better than the summer months anyway.
Anyway, it's also Ramadan for pretty much the entire month so many folk will be fasting during daylight hours. I'm not sure what will happen when it gets into June, as Muslims will not be able to eat anything between about 3am and 11pm up our way. That's not for a few years yet though.
