A young copper speaks out against beurocracy in the UK.

"But what we actually do is attempt to meet Government statistics by solving trivial crime."

I have to agree with what he says. A few years ago my grandmothers neighbour was robbed. Several of the neighbours saw the crook and rang the police.

The response from the police was that someone would pop round "in a day or two". Obviously events get confused as time goes on and memories cloud meaning that descriptions become more vague.

No wonder the great British public get disillusioned. It's all about targets and to my mind targets are about celebrating the mediocre.

Lets face it no government is going to set targets that can't be achieved. That would be political suicide for a Home Secretary so what we get are mediocre low achievement goals. Then we celebrate and congratulate ourselves when they are achieved.

Trivial offences get priority because they are easy to solve then we applaud the police on their clear up rate.

It's no wonder we have such a disillusioned force.

This I do agree with. The lack of police on the streets is a continual concern and I know of cases where the police have ignored call outs because it would add to their paperwork and they would have no chance of finding the culprits anyway. Mind you, we are not the only country with problems like these.

So that makes it more tolerable?

I wouldn't rely on the police for anything. But nob-ends like this guy letting the cat out of the bag just cause civil unrest.

So you'd rather keep it quiet and pretend it's not happening?

Civil unrest indeed, and there was me, nearly convinced that everything was hunky dory in the UK.

Quite right too. They should have been reported to the RSPCA as well.

"The boys had picked up the fallen apple and used it to scrape ants off a neighbour’s wall."

"A recent Police Federation survey showed twothirdsof police admitted making arrests, issuing cautions or fixed penalty notices to meet targets."

Good to know the police are working for the good of others and not just to keep the Home Office happy.

The paperwork is an issue for anywhere in Britain though... so much so that it puts people off setting up businesses etc here.

It's part of our "someone must be to blame" culture.
