Stupid social workers or what?

Two men have been jailed for abusing children who were in their care. Social workers allegedly did nothing to investigate these men even after there were complaints about them because they didn't want to be seen as homophobic.

Can this really be true, or is just another case of incompetence on the part of some social workers?

Do you think it's true then tv that these social workers did nothing because they didn't want to be seen as homophobic or perhaps because they thought that these men were innocent because they are gay? If so, that's terrible because that would imply that some members of society are thought to be either above suspicion or are protected by political correctness.

I think they didn't want to be seen as homophobic. Speak to anyone working within council/government and you'll see that none of them are allowed to speak freely at work. they must adhere strict guidelines when dealing with certain groups but not others.

Some people ARE protected by political correctness, in my humble opinion. I don't think the social worker thought they were innocent just because they are gay.

But don't you think it's awful that some people basically then have a green light to do what they like because nobody wants to accuse them just because of who or what they are?

I think it's disgusting and unacceptable.

I think that EVERYONE should be treated the same... it doesn't matter what your orientation, race, colour, class, beliefs or any other denominator should be treated the same.

When it comes to ideals and reality though they seem so far apart that it's impossible to expect change.

In the name of fairness, if someone is suspected to be committing a crime... they should be questioned appropriately... the authorities should not shy away it. It is after all the reason we have Social Services... to protect the children and vulnerable not to protect certain groups.

Maybe now is the time for people to really start to see the damage that such PC attitudes can have, and that far from protecting vulnerable people as PC was supposed to do, these attitudes have now begun to have a very bad effect.

What I meant was the reality has become a lot further from the ideal than it should have.

The aim of certain laws is to provide equality... there is nothing equal about this case. They have been given preferential treatment to the detriment of the people social services are there to protect... it should never have happened in the first place... but it could happen again because it isn'tthe law that's caused this it's someone's interpretation of it... because they were worried about being branded homophobic.

No-one wants to be classed as a homophobic/racist/sexist etc. If you are then you are outcast from society... It's people's attitudes that need to change IMO.

To be able to say that we are all equal... that counts for positive and negative aspects.

How can people's attitudes change when everyone is terrified of being branded homophobic/racist/sexist? Has it all gone too far for things to change now?

Political correctness has been joked about for a while because of things like councils wanting to scrap the word "Christmas" and silly stuff like that, but this is much more serious. There has to be less sensitivity I think in order for things to change.

There is far too emphasis on the differences between people rather than the fact that we're all just people cabable of good and bad regardless of our race, sex, sexual orientation etc. There is now special training in the police for example to help them handle situations involving race etc. Well I think this is potentially a bad thing as it leads to people being treated differently and with favouritism.

The headline for this topic on GOM is, "I told you so" by some daft old fart who predicted that homos are bound to abuse children and that it shouldn't be allowed.

Well I have news for him, there's more chance of natural parents and blood relatives doing this than any poof adoptive parent!!
