    Default Supermarket/Big Store Own Brands

Cheaper, certainly but own brands can also be healthier! We test the big name products against their supermarket rivals - with surprising results | Mail Online

We mainly stick with the well known namez we were raised with, out of habit really.

Which 'own brands' would you recommend???

It all depends on the specific item. Some own brands are really good, some are awful.

A mate of mine does a good trick. She starts by trying the bottom basic brand and if she (the family) like it they stick with it if they don't she works her way up. She says that Asda basic rice pudding is better that Ambrosia and it's about a third of the price. They also like asda tomato sauce.

I like my branded stuff because it looks nice in the cupboard and I suppose there's that element of sort of trust in the product but i've had home brand tinned fruit, pancake mix, jelly and custard powder and for stuff like that there is no difference. Although, when the lad spotted that i'd bought tinned fruit he did ask if we were poor.

I really like Lidl orange juice, the stuff that comes in the glass bottles. The only thing is it's got bits in it and no-one likes bits so I have to sieve those out and re-bottle it. But, talking of orange juice the Princes stuff is over a quid a litre these days and we drink one a day so I bought some of Asdas own to try (think it was 59p), it's very nice, can't tell the difference cos it tastes just like orange juice.

My kids like own-brand stuff from Aldi at the moment.
I like trying out the really cheap-shit-value/basics stuff. When I find one I dislike, the dogs or the cat get it as a treat.

Trouble is, the mind is Loki's and the body is Buddah's!
