Three arrested as far-right groups 'try to storm Rochdale town hall' in protest

Three people were arrested at a protest by far-right groups over the Rochdale grooming case. Police said a group of ten BNP members held a demonstration in Heywood at about 5pm, which passed off peacefully without any arrests being made. But at about the same time a larger group of 40 activists from groups including the National Front, Infidels of Britain and Combat Ex-Forces, turned up at Rochdale town hall and tried to force their way into the annual mayor making ceremony which was being held inside. Police stopped the group from entering the town hall and three men were arrested, two for a breach of the peace and the other for what was described as a 'racially aggravated public order offence'. Supt Chris Hankinson, of Greater Manchester Police, said: "This evening's events show that far-right groups are now prepared to use different tactics in order to get their views across. "On this occasion, they appear to have planned a separate demonstration in Heywood, to draw attention away from a larger event in Rochdale. "Thankfully, they came up against our determined and professional officers who prevented them getting into the town hall where they were clearly intent on causing as much disruption as possible. "We took swift action to stop this and restored peace as quickly as possible. "I want to thank the communities of Heywood and Rochdale for not engaging in today's activities and we will continue to work with them to ensure disruption from these types of events are kept to a minimum."

i couldn't understand why the plod stood by and watched? Then I realised that they were up against a load of Big lads (+1 big lass), not students. Wouldn't do to have to call in van-loads of back-up because they were getting a pasting would it?
