Question Diktats of the drought police

Diktats of the drought police: Not just a hosepipe ban, but ELEVEN tough restrictions on water use

Water companies unveiled an 11-point diktat last night to stop 20million people from beating a hosepipe ban.

As the drought-hit South and East of the country faced drastic restrictions on consumption, bosses issued an extensive checklist to prevent households from exploiting loopholes.

It includes a ban on using a hose or sprinkler to water plants, wash a car or boat, fill fountains, swimming or paddling pools, or to clean patios, driveways or windows.

Welsh Water: 'Too costly' for Wales to supply drought-hit England

Moving water from Wales to drought-hit southern and eastern England would be too costly and damaging to the environment, says Welsh Water.

Nigel Annett, the firm's managing director, told BBC Wales it was possible but the cost was "truly prohibitive".

At a drought summit last month calls were made for better interconnectivity between water companies.

On Monday seven English water companies announced hosepipe bans from 5 April.
