    Default Cash Strapped Britain

More than half of Britons cannot cope on their current salaries with one in five forced to borrow money to buy groceries and other household essentials because of the soaring cost of living, a new survey revealed today.

I know a couple who are retired, have loadz of credit cardz between them, live in a council house, get some benefitz and spend, spend, spend on their cardz.
This has been going on for while now, they just do not care.
They will NEVER pay back the card companiz.

That survey is bollocks. Yes they borrow money to buy groceries, but they're not forced to.

    Exactly.

Oh woe is me! I'm forced to use my credit card to pay for food and water...because I blew all my cash on Fabergé Eggs and gold-plated golf tees

Yes, it's total bollocks. They are having to take loans for daily living because they haven't got a clue how to manage their finances. As Ben said, they'll all have tellies, Sky TV, broadband and smartphones. The problem is the perception of what you must have in our modern society, all of which are not necessities but luxuries. There is also a massive envy, and "entitlement" factor at work.

I do think many people live beyond their means nowadays. Poverty like we had in the 50's and even the 60's is unheard of here now because there are lots more benefits that did'nt exist then.
However I do think a certain section of society are really struggling, I doubt whether 'payday' loans would exist if people were not desperately short of money in between payments.
People who are working and on a lower wage are imo a lot worse off than people who are not working and get all the benefit entitlements.

Yes, some are genuinely struggling, but I would doubt that it's "more than half of Britons" as is claimed.

I believe attitudez are changing where those who were law abiding hardworking citizenz will now adopt the attitude of 'something for nothing' when THEY get in a pickle.

If you do not have property or money in the bank and get into serious debt, how can anyone get it from you???

Very true but that is down to an attitude to money rather than genuine poverty.

Mornin T. I am thinking that the normally 'decent person' will develop the 'could not give a flying frog' attitude and jump on the bandwagon.
