Good point BD, but homeless people are invariably scum. Someone has put a lot of time, effort and money into saving the Cutty Sark. Sure, it might be pointless to some but no more pointless than some crack whore's life.

How on earth,indeed what on earth has brought you to the ridiculous assumption that most homeless people are invariably scum?

I dont know what grief any of them have gone through in their lives to result in their need to live in poverty on the street.
I dont judge people on what they own or where they live or the clothes on their back if they're civil to me and MOST ARE,then i'd just as soon talk to them than any celeb or overpaid sportsman with inflated ideas of their own contribution to the world,it's a fact that a lot of ex-servicemen now live on the streets in poverty and yet they gave their all for us.
You need to climb off your high horse and delve in the horse shit for a while.
You just might discover that some lovely people are forced by circumstances to live in that shit and then feel ashamed for not helping them at every given opportunity.

People don't end up living rough for no reason, all the ones I've known deserved to end up where they did, the rest are a bunch of no marks. It's called survival of the fittest, and these bums are losing. I have greater respect for a craftsman who has worked hard and achieved something tangible.

No they dont,some are ex servicemen who leave the service traumatised and can never settle into family life again,others are victims of abuse,some have fallen victim to drink or drugs and some are mentally ill through no fault of their own and denied hospitalisation due to hospital closures.
All of these people are of course losers and it's all their own fault.
Bugger em all.lets all pretend they dont exist and that the ones who do are all scum and dont deserve help or understanding.
Put your hand in your pocket and cough up and be bloody grateful your not stuck on the streets through no fault of your own.

I'm not bailing out some dead beat loser, if they're mental freaks that can't fit into society then they're a waste of effort. Like I said, they're ostracised from society for good reason.

Well you just cant get through to some people.

I think you would find that if you ran a poll asking if members thought homeless people should be helped or ignored or just treated with contempt like your suggesting,most would agree with me that they deserve help.

I dont have the answers but personally I will always give to anyone living on the street,I'd personally feel guilty if I didn't and I dont care if they spend it on drink or drugs or food as long as it helps them I feel better about myself for doing it.

I go home to a warm house /bungalow every night,what's a few quid i'd only waste anyway?
No wonder kids grow up not giving a shit about anyone or anything anymore when you've got supposedly well educated adults saying bugger the losers in life.

I dont preach to anyone about anything but I do know kids today have no respect for anyone or anything and are to be avoided at all cost.
That has to be an attitude picked up from their parents and educators,nothing wrong with compassion,you dont need to preach it at all or teach it for that matter,it should be inborn.
