Default Children should provide room and board for their aging parents

In a lot of cultures people take a larger role in caring for their elderly parents. Rather than relying on care homes should families in the UK make a greater effort to care for their old folk at home?

I couldn't. I'd go crazy with any of them living with, in particular my mother.

They also tend to have bigger houses in which to do it though. If we did it, whoever was moving in would have to pay for a granny flat extension to the house, so they might as well go into a care home anyway.

You could not cope in their best interests anyway.
A lot would not have the room.
Indians are becoming less parent caring for in old age anyway.

My mum looked after her mum when she was dying of cancer my gran looked after her dad until he died aged 102 (My gran died aged 99.5 yrs) My brother now looks after my mum who has chronic lung disease (he also runs his firm)
Now my Gran on dads side is in her late 90s she had Senile dementia and my dad and his siblings have now(friday gone) put her in a care home in Ripley at a cot of 800 pw (paid between them!)nowadys with care homes having on Suite and even little kitchens in the rooms, I think it is better for the person going in as well as less stressfull for the families!

That's the thing as well, people's lives are different. now with generally both partners working and for longer, it's not as practical to look after people at home any more. This should be thought through more and if we all have to work longer then maybe there should be more state help for the care of elderly people.

the most honest thing said today! If the people do have to work longer then they have paid more in! so the state should do something for them(No not a remake of "The Island"with Michael York great film) if someone does not work for x amount of years through being a lazy "B" then liquidate them! but if its gen they cant work then look fter em!
