Street Midwife & And Street Lay-a-Outer.
When I was a nippa in two different roads where two different aunts lived they had a neighbour who acted as midwife and another who laid you out when you croaked.
Do you remember.
I can remember one old lady who used to lay people out, Mrs. Cox. neighbours used to say, 'she does a lovely job'.

I don't remember personally (I'm far too young), but I know my mum used to have nightmares after walking into the front room as a child and seeing her aunt laid out with her eyes still open.
