Do gays lie more than straight people?

Right from being little we're taught not to tell lies. Our parents and our school teachers tell us that telling lies is a bad thing to do, sometimes we get told that bad things will happen if we lie, or that if we lie we will get punished, some religeous people teach that if we lie we will be found out and we will be punished by 'God'.

This is usually enough to frighten most children out of telling lies, or at least if they do so and they get caught they quickly backtrack and admit the truth.

But what about gay people?

I've often heard that gays have lied about their sexuality when they were younger for many many years, some still do when they are adults. Lying about your sexuality is a big major lie to tell and indeed to pull off successfully. Surely they must have thought about this lie. If a child learns to lie at an early age and nothing bad happens to them then they must think that what their parents and teachers have told them is bollocks. They must have somehow justified it in themselves that to lie about something so major is an ok thing to do.

Getting into the habit of telling lies from an early age and to get away with it without retribution when they tell huge lies must make any smaller lies they tell throughout their lives seem insignificant to them.

So, do gays lie more than straight people or are they just better at it than straight people as they've had more practice? Or, is it possible that they can just lie about that one thing and be totally honest in all other aspects of life?

Perhaps they pay in the afterlife... I'm not sure that 'young gays' are the only people in the world that lie. Even though kids are taught not to lie, many still do.

And also, I think a lot of the Gay community may argue that many are not lying about their sexuallity, but are never taught how to understand their 'feelings'. Perhaps I'm not the best to explain this. But I would have thought that most gay people aren't 'lying' about their sexuallity, but rather denying them to themselves in order to 'fit in'.

Again, I suppose the above would be a broad generalisation. So maybe some do lie.

But why do you ask? Have you had a run in with a lying gay person?

I've heard many come out with all sorts of bullshit to justify their lifestyles, maybe for good reason, but bullshit none the less.

I think you've actually got a point there ck - it's made me think at least.

I honestly don't know what people class as a lie. To me, an untruth, no matter what the reason, is a lie - but some people justify lies with a reason (don't want to hurt someone/want to sound cool or fit in etc), so don't class them as lies. To me, a lie is a lie.

Seriously though... It's an interesting thought, but I doubt if you did a scientific study you would find that they do.
