Is it right that these number plate registrations are taken by some as being 'anti gay'?

If anyone objects to them, they can buy them and not use them.

The controversial Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency has been forced to withdraw personalised numberplates from an auction after complaints they were offensive to the gay community.

The two registrations – F4 GOT and D1 KES – were to have been among 1,600 auctioned at a sale this week.

But Stonewall, the gay rights charity, objected to the DVLA profiting from the sale of the insulting numberplates and they were dropped from the auction, which is expected to raise £3.5million.

I never could understand all the furore about a 'personalised' number plate ... A number plate identifies a car, year of registration etcetera ... the rest is just pure posing!

Is the year your car was registered really part of personal data? What about the year your home was built? The fact you have a driving licence/pay insurance - note I presume you do

I have a private plate too! But my explanation is simple, I drive an Audi S3 so my plate says S3 then my initials...
