Forced To Lie.

Looking at this my automatic reaction would be to tell them to get stuffed, I will not lie for them, if I am gonna lie I will decide.

Then I think, if you have a good secure job, a young family, a home to pay for and all of the rest we all have to pay for, can you risk the sack for a principal?

If you do not lie for them, someone else will and you are up the road with your P45.

What would you do?

A civil servant has broken ranks to reveal how he was forced to lie about the war in Iraq and Afghanistan.

John Salisbury-Baker, 62, was working in the Ministry of Defence when he says he was ordered to deliberately mislead bereaved families and the public.

He claims he was instructed to issue official statements through the media which were 'heavily spun' and clearly at odds with the reality.

No excuse ... Either you lie or you don't. Whichever you decide the decision is yours and you have to live with the consequences. All that is happening at the moment is his conscience is being 'cleared' at the expense of the anguish of many.

It's a difficult one isn't it. Much as though I feel the truth is always best, I don't think it would have been a good idea to publicly announce that the troops 'snatch' cars weren't any protection for a roadside bomb and that many troops weren't wearing body armour. I think that would be kind of giving away too much.

What is wrong though, if true, is that the troops weren't equipped enough in the first place. Whether that was done on purpose or because of a manufacturing or shipping problem we don't know. I can guess though that the life of a soldier is more costly to the government than some body armour though.
