Golliwog Axing.
I am sick to death of people getting axed for saying one word that someone else objects to, it is way over the top IMO.
Losing ones livelihood is a serious matter nowadays, moreso than upsetting some frail, touchy person.
Anyone who helps a person get the sack for saying 'golliwog' is a shixbag IMO.

Warder axed for 'golliwog' jibe
02 Jul 2009
A PRISON officer has been sacked for calling a curly-haired black inmate a "golliwog".
Andy May, 57, made the remark while viewing CCTV footage to identify ringleaders after a brawl.
He asked: "Who's that with the golliwog ears?" - which offended a black female officer.
May was suspended and then dismissed for using racist language at Aylesbury Young Offenders' Institution, Bucks.
Sticks and stones?????????????

Re: Golliwog Axing.
I agree to a certain extent Major, but you also have to take into account that anyone in their right mind would have known that calling the inmate a golliwog was bound to cause offence, particularly if there were a black prison officer stood nearby.
So on those grounds I'd say Andy May is clearly a bit of a dick and probably shouldn't be in a position of authority.
Everyone knows the rules, if he doesn't get it by now there must be something wrong with him.

Re: Golliwog Axing.
The man exercised free speech ... he chose what to say. Shame he didn't exercise his brain at the same time.

Re: Golliwog Axing.
I think he was stupid to say it but dismissal is a bit harsh if it was a first offence. What happened to warnings and such? I don't think it warranted summary dismissal.

Re: Golliwog Axing.
That's a good point. It's hardly gross misconduct.
