Couple being investigated for smoking in their own home.

A couple from Cornwall, I think, are being investigated after their neighbour complained about being able to smell tobacco smoke coming from their home into hers.

It's being reported by pro smoking groups that this is the sort of thing we can expect now that the goverment has made it clear that smoking is classed as an anti social activity.

Sorry, no link to the story as I heard it on the radio. The jist of the way that it was talked about was that this is outrageous and OTT, they particulary emphasized the word 'investigated'.

I don't know how many fags a day this couple smoke and I've no idea about the structure of their homes but my feeling is, that as much as I like a ciggie or ten myself, If my neighbours could smell baccy smoke coming from my home into theirs I'd be pretty horrified. It'd mean I was either smoking one hell of a load of fags or that there was some problem with the houses that smoke could penetrate from one house to the next.

Complain, I'd do it if I could smell something unpleasant so I don't see the big deal.

What do you think, are people right to complain or is it seen as an infrigement of rights?

It was reported on Sky news last night.

The neighbour claims that the smell was penetrating the wall, but wouldn't comment to the media, only the local council!
Sounds a bit like a bitchy neighbour problem to me.

I'd be a bit worried if I could smell anything coming from a neighbours house - it does look like there's more to it though.

I'd be a bit annoyed if I couldn't have a cig in my own house without people interfering and trying to force me to stop. What next - "I can smell my neighbours ar*e through the walls" and them being forced to install a bidet?

Hmmm. Got me wondering why SFB's plugging the bidets now. Do you think he's the MD of a sanitary ware firm, a bit peeved at the end of the 80's? Maybe the Spanish market's worn a bit thin since all the Brits moved there and started chucking them out in favour of the M* patented hosepipe method?
