Parents of a severely disabled girl in the US have revealed that they are keeping her child-sized in order to give her a better life.

The nine-year-old, named Ashley, has the mental ability of a three-month-old baby and cannot walk or talk.

Along with hormone doses to limit her growth, Ashley's parents also opted for surgery to block breast growth and had her uterus and appendix removed.

They say the treatment will help to improve her quality of life.

I think what they've done to this young girl is absolutely sick!

They've removed her womb so she doesn't have periods, they've removed her breast buds so she doesn't develop breast due to the possibilty of sexual abuse and so she can lay down comfortably???, Yet it says she's nicknamed 'pillow angel' because she doesn't move anywhere.
They've stunted her growth so she can continue to fit in a bath?

They are so concerned for her comfort yet they wanted their own nine year old severely disabled kid go through one of the most painful operations known! If you read the blog it even says that she had aggresive pain control. I've had surgery and I can tell you now that the pain, even with aggresive pain control is practically unbearable and the mere thought of it still makes me shudder.

As for the implication of child abuse, they claim that they will be the sole carers of the child no matter what. So where's the risk of abuse??

It sounds to me like they can't be arsed with this poor kid. They can't be arsed to deal with her monthly periods and they can't even be arsed to put some effort in to moving her about to bath her that's why they've stunted her growth, so they can push her about in a pram and bath her easily.

These are the sort of people that get kittens and then declaw them so they don't scratch the wallpaper. My son pisses me off for rooting out all the best chocolates, what would they do if they were me? Chop off his hands, poke out his eyes and cut his freakin tongue out?

Reminds me of the couple who insisted that their baby was kept alive, even when all the medics agreed it would be hopeless. Now the couple have split and neither one is prepared to take responsibility for the child????

It's a personal bug bear of mine when people say they want to 'have a baby' or they're 'going to have a baby'. I think anyone who says they 'want to have a baby' isn't mature enough to be having one. It's not a baby you get it's a child which soon develops a unique personality and a mind of it's own to boot!

Not many people consider when they're wanting to go down this road what they might actually end up with, and how they will cope if what they get isn't the idyllic dream scenario they have in their minds.

Eventually.

Exactly though. And for how many does the novelty of being a parent soon wear off?

It's a 24 hour, 7 day a week job and you can't afford to make mistakes. It's tiring, it's expensive and it's often a thankless task.

Of course, the rewards are great. I'd not deny that for one minute but it is very difficult.

You'd have thought that's what they'd do if they couldn't cope alone. Normal people would do.

But, instead they have chosen to keep her tiny and stop her from developing any more than she already has done. She'll be much easier to look after being small and not having those icky periods to deal with. No bras to fit on her too. Save a small fortune in clothes seeing as she'll never grow any bigger.

It's a topsy turvy world, but if the outlook was that bleak, would you rather have, a child forever, a growing cabbage or legalised euthanasia?

It may seem easy for those of us who made it in one piece with working brains, limbs and other bodily functions, but apparently it's not that easy for any of us to make the choice when it comes to those unfortunates who come after us? Who among us would be happy having to choose between life or death for a newborn or anyone else other than ourselves?
