    Default Saudi Child Bride

A judge in Saudi Arabia has ruled that the arranged marriage of an eight year old girl to a 47 year old man is perfectly legal.

Mohammed had a nine year old wife didn't he?

Anyway, the judge said the bloke can't have sex with her till she's reached puberty so that settles that.

The mind boggles ... aside from everything else what on earth would a mature man want with an 8 year old for a wife? (the latter is a rhetorical question BTW)

That children can be 'sold' to clear a debt is slavery in its purest form!

I've heard it said that arranged marriages often work better than regular ones.

I don't think its done out of a desire for underage rumpo it is a consolidation of groups, alliances that are beneficial to both sides.
Gary Glitter and Michael Jackson, totally different kettle of fish....
Just had a water fight over the park with a bunch of local kids.

Actually I wasn't thinking about that side of things ... Marriage is supposed to be a partnership. Someone to stand with you ... Children are not support systems.

Here maybe, other cultures have loads of kids, firstly cos the mortality rate is high, secondly to look after the parents when they are bobbing on a bit.

I was referring to the marriage context with regards to the support system.
I realise that the reason for having children differs and that in some cultures it is not only accepted but necessary for children to be available as support systems when the parents are elderly; financially as well as otherwise.
