Call For Criminal Inquiry-G20 Death. Ian Tomlinson
Bully boy tactics just like Thatcher used against the miners and Scargill.
There should be a quick thorough investigation into what happened, the cause of Ians death IMO, no doubt it will go on for years and cost a few £million.
Video sparks call for criminal inquiry into G20 death of Ian Tomlinson - Times Online
Ian Tomlinson had been on his way home from work during the G20 protests.
The Metropolitan Police were this morning facing calls for a criminal investigation after video footage emerged of a member of the public being shoved to the ground by an riot police officer during the G20 protests. The victim died minutes later.
Gerald Howarth, the Liberal Democrat shadow justice secretary, said that he had been sickened to watch the amateur video footage of the alleged assault on Ian Tomlinson, a 47-year-old newspaper salesman.
The death is being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), but Mr Howarth said that this was not enough.

I watched this video this morning and was completely horrified. The gentlemen had his hands in his pockets and was pushed from behind. The police officer showed no control what so ever in which case he should not have this position.

I expect that the end result will be that though unfortunate and deeply regretted the actions were, under the circumstances etcetera and so forth!

Two things, there seems to have been shenanigans going on to sweeten the enquiry.

Re: Call For Criminal Inquiry-G20 Death. Ian Tomlinson
Can any one take a step back from the implication that this video has shown the general attitude of the policing? a policy of attacking "...unarmed...hand in pocket...drunk... possible protestor"
rather than the actions of an individual wrongly sanctioned for police duty?
It is unfortunate (bloody unlucky) that the "victim" died. It is also unfortunate this single video is used as significant evidence to attack the policing policy.
