Default Teacher Sacked For Wearing Trainuz,

I believe in a dress code for male teachuz, polished shoes, suit, shirt and tie, groomed hair because I do not really accept the slovenliness of today in general.
However I also realize that thingz have moved on while I have stood still in certain thingz.

Some prices for trainuz appear outrageous to me.
No worries as I have never worn them.

Some schoolgirlz wear makeup and paint their nailz nowadayz so a pair of trainuz on a male maths teachers is probably OK, or is it???

BBC NEWS | England | London | Agreement in trainers teacher row

Mr Swain taught Maths and Science at the school for 17 tears

Strikes planned at a school that sacked a teacher for wearing trainers in class have been called off.

Adrian Swain was fired for refusing to follow an unofficial staff dress code at St Paul's Way Community School in Tower Hamlets, east London.

National Union of Teachers members planned five one-day strikes from 19 March demanding his reinstatement.

But the union said it called off the strikes after reaching a confidential agreement with Tower Hamlets Council.

I suppose if you try and enforce a dress code on the pupils then it is only fair that the teachers follow a dress code as well. On the other hand, too much time is wasted on inconsequentials. Does wearing trainers make him a less effective teacher?

As someone actively working towards scruffiest bloke in the world awards I would be more offended by the hypocrisy of bollocking kids for doing the same as you.
If there is no dress code then fairs fair, but if the teachers can't play the game then they are no loss to the team.
Just had a water fight over the park with a bunch of local kids.

Some of the scruffiest people I know, teach. I doubt whether it makes them inferior at their job. Personally though, I would prefer EVERYONE to make an effort with their appearance. But thats just me, and the way I was brought up.

The thing is it says it was an unofficial dress code - unless I've read it wrong. So should someone be sacked for not following something that is nto official? I think not. If he had been told, officially, before taking on the job that there was a dress code, then fair enough, but was he?

If he was told that trainers were not appropriate dress, and carried on regardless, I dont think the school would have any alternative than to take action.
I was told not to wear a leather skirt, in one job. So I did'nt. It was'nt written down anywhere though.

So, to my mind, they'd have had a hard job sacking you then.

I just think, that some things are worth fighting for, and some are'nt. If he is a good teacher, how sad that he has put his footwear before his students.
Personally, I would have just changed my shoes, and got on with the important things in life.

It was like that when I worked at the AA.
The young girls seemed to compete with each other dressing to REALLY impress.
Some of the crabby managers would send them home, though I don't know on what leg they would stand legally.
Sigh, it's bringing back happy memories...
As they were mainly temps I suppose they would have sacked 'em without any reason so most had to toe the line.
Even as someone who makes Ian Dowie look like George Clooney it always seemed to me that the uglier the manager the more strict they were about the girls dress code.
This is bearing in mind that we only worked on the phone, so any punter needing the assistance of the AA wouldn't know, or care, if the person helping them wore something that made Paris Hilton look like a frump.
