Bleedin good enit, thieves breaking into prisons to steal because the prison service does not have the resources to stop them, someone deserves a rocket up their jacksy IMO.
If someone can break in is it reasonable to assume they can break out?

A jail's security is being beefed up… because crooks are breaking IN to pinch stuff.

Bosses have ordered a crackdown following “numerous” raids in which tools and cleaning equipment have been stolen.

Items nicked include Hoovers, power drills, screwdrivers, hammers – and even a mop and bucket.

Now Ford open prison, which houses 560 inmates at Arundel, West Sussex, faces a major shake-up. In their annual report, independent monitors have called for improved CCTV cameras and a new fence to keep the burglars out.

They say the Category D prison does not have enough staff at nights and at weekends and that the break-ins are as much a problem as bootleg drugs and booze.

A source at the jail said yesterday: “People think it’s funny that a prison is being burgled. It sounds like an episode from Porridge.

“But it has become a real problem, with several incidents of thieves sneaking in at night or at the weekend when they know security is a little more lax.

“They break into workshops and cleaning cupboards and help themselves to whatever is there – even if it’s only worth a couple of quid.”

The monitors’ report criticises lack of Government funding and says poor staffing levels have contributed to the spate of break-ins.

It also says inmates have easy access to alcohol, drugs and mobile phones which are smuggled in.
