Two wrongs don't make a right DK, so crashing into his bag was a bad move, stopping and telling him the whole story could have been better?

You have right of way over motorised traffic on the road, although it's hard to enforce!! But pedestrians have the right of way on pavements, so you were basically wrong to do what you did.
I once did something similar on a motorbike and the pedestrian died the following day from a heart attack. The fact that he had been suffering from heart problems for a while was my saving grace, but I often remember the incident, even though it was many years ago.

Is there a legal age limit to ride a bike on a pavement?

My dad's in his fifties but he still does it, he says he won't ride on the road, it's too dangerous.

That's a very good question and I'm sure your local fuzz will be able to tell you if you ask them.

I don't think your dad qualifies, unless he rides a kiddy tricycle!

But technically you did kill him. Good show, I wonder how many more killers post on here? I bet Lohi's either already or not very far off killing and eating someone, and Six has probably seen some action.

Back on topic, bikes should always be rode on the road. The fact that this is simply too dangerous just means I don't ride a bike at all. It does take us back to the topic I started about drivers being arrogant arseholios, I give pushbikes as much room as I would a car and so should everyone. Then there'd be no problems and people wouldn't feel they had to ride on the pavement.

Cyclists should all have to pass a test too of course, I saw a father and son riding along a very busy A Road the other night, with no lights on. He'll look clever explaining to his wife how he took little Johnny out for a bike ride and he got crushed under a HGV, the stupid twat!

And a further rant, why do people put "child on board" signs in the back of their cars then still drive like wankers? They're your kids you fucking numbskull, just fucking drive carefully don't expect me to make allowances for your ineptitude for the sake of your foul offspring! Fucking cunts!

Apparently >>> cycling on footpaths is prohibited by Section 72 of the Highway Act 1835. This is punishable by a fixed penalty notice of £30 under Section 51 and Schedule 3 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.

edited to add >>> the 'fixed penalties' brought in a few years ago do NOT apply country footpaths where there is no road. Fixed penalty notices also cannot be applied to areas such as parks, shopping precincts etc. unless a byelaw has been passed making cycling such areas an offence, nor do they apply to anyone under 16.

However, On 1st August 1999, new legislation came into force to allow a fixed penalty notice to be served on anyone who is guilty of cycling on a footway. However the Home Office issued guidance on how the new legislation should be applied, indicating that they should only be used where a cyclist is riding in a manner that may endanger others.

    Confusing??

So kids aren't allowed to ride on the pavement, but they can't be fined for it either?

Quite. Also you cannot be prosecuted for speeding but you can be prosecuted for peddling furiously.

I doubt if too many OAPs would ask the fuzz to arrest a toddler riding a tricycle M, even if they had a pavement traffic collision with one?
