• Quoting other posts

Quoting other posts is a very simple function of the forum, which some people bizarrely still manage to make a pig's ear of.

The easiest and most common use of the quoting feature is to simply click reply with quote - when you wish to post a reply.

That will then place the quoted text, within quote tags, in the quick reply message interface.

      quick reply quote -

Then comes what people seem to find the tricky part. You can now type your own message, but you must make certain that your text begins after the last [/quote]. Otherwise your own message will appear somewhere within the quoted text and make little sense to anyone, thus wasting your time and simply annoying everyone else with your fudged attempts at communication.

Once you've mastered the 'reply with quote' method you can move on to more exotic quoting, such as 'multi-quote'. The multi-quote feature is a clever little devil which means you can quote several posts all at the same time. Mastering this skill is a doddle, a child could do it. To quote several posts in your reply simply click this little icon in the posts you wish to quote: multi quote -

Once clicked the icon transforms to indicate the post has been selected, like so: multi quote on -

You can do this with as many posts as you like and then scroll to the bottom of the thread and click reply to thread -

All the posts you've quoted will then appear in the quick reply interface and you can insert your message below or even between them. Just take care not to post any extra text anywhere between pairs of [quote][/quote] tags or you'll make a total dog's egg of it.

And quoting doesn't end there, you can use the [quote][/quote] tags in any of your posts to indicate that you're quoting someone else, say from a film or even a snippet from an article you've linked to. Just click this little icon in your message editor: quote icon -

The [quote][/quote] tags will appear in the editor message pane and you can type, or copy/paste the words you are quoting between the tags, like this:

[quote]One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I don't know[/quote]

And once posted that will appear like this:

One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I don't know
For a little bit of fun with quoting at the Morningstarr* we have some special BBCode designed around Weebl. In the message editor you will see this little icon: weebltag - it's a Weebl.

Clicking on it produces these [bubble][/bubble] tags, simply type or copy/paste your text between them, and hey presto!

One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I don't know

      I'm sure you'll find that's a lot of fun.

For any more help or assistance on using the quoting features simply contact a moderator or administrator through their profiles, or use the contact form.
