Re: What book would you recommend, and why?
If you liked The Stand, you'd LOVE the Dark Tower series.

I got the first Dark Tower one and didn't really enjoy it, that was ages ago. I was told that SK was very young when he wrote it and that they get better so maybe I'll give it another shot. There are loads of quiz questions on the series.

Yeah, they do actually. i'm currently reading The Wastelands.
The Dark Tower series is one of my favourites, and if you notice, some of his other novels actually tie in with The Dark Tower.

Re: What book would you recommend, and why?
I stopped reading his books about ten years ago when there was one I gave up on, Rose Madder. I read From a Buick 8 last year and thought it was OK. I've just dug out Cell by SK. I was wondering what to read next. I've just finished reading "This Book will Save your Life" by A.M. Homes which I thought was bordering on shite.

Cell was a good one too.
This is also The Stand related, the character Randall Flagg has appeared many times in other novels.

It looks like an extra long jacuzz this afternoon with the Cell.

I would recommend any book by Barbara Vine. She also writes as Ruth Rendell, but the Barbara Vine ones are more "psychological" if you like. I think they're the kind of book that people either love or hate. I love them!

You would probably like Iris Murdoch. Her books have great depth. This is one of my favourites.

'Blindness' by Jose Saramago is one of the best books of all time - a parable about the human condition if you like. Saramago is a Portugese author and he doesn't tend to use punctuation or paragraph breaks - but do persevere - he's a wonderful author.

No paragraphs or punctuation? I can't cope with that. Why couldn't he just have put them in?
