Judge Dredd Artist Accused Of Child Abuse

Legendary Judge Dredd artist Ron Smith has appeared in court this week charged with sexually abusing a 13 year old girl.

The 80 year old comic book artist was a huge part of the success of Judge Dredd when he drew for 2000ad in the late 1970s and 1980s. Smith also illustrated all weekly Judge Dredd strips printed in the Daily Star newspaper.

It is alleged that during his Judge Dredd heyday in the 80s, when he worked on classics such as The Day the Law Died and The Judge Child, Smith was abusing a 13 year old girl. The Sun reports today that a 39 year old woman has accused Smith of assaulting her over a three year period over 25 years ago. She claims Smith acted out a string of sick sexual fantasies on her, including acting out a knife point rape.

Smith denies all charges.

I never really liked Smith's work, but I hope this turns out to be a crock of shit.

No, it thinks of selling papers though. I remember the good old days when the media were more like investigators who would bring us real news and truth, these days it seems to be more about tittle tattle and gossip and whipping up a frenzy.

The point is that it's a current court case, which is why it's news.

It's alleged that a 60 year old man raped a 13-year old who was entrusted to his care. Whether that happened last week or 26 years ago it's a very serious accusation. However, the fact that the woman has taken over two decades to make this claim does cast some question over the case.
