The radio programme The Charm Offensive took the wee wee out of Damien Hirst and his art. Quite right Armando Iannucci - I thought. One joke about somewhere years hences half a shark being bought for valuing to "The Antiques Road Show" particularly amused me. They should come as a pair.

"Where's the rest of me?" the shark would seem to say (Ronald Reagan's immortal line from "Kings Row" and that recent death of Frank Mundus)

And there was a news item that suggested that an early picture done by Hirst himself would be relatively worthless because it "wasn't in his style"? What they meant was he wasn't famous and if he had treated the poor moggy he drew from a photograph like his dead animal I suspect back then he would have been arrested.

Yet Hirst now is so hot he can take another artist's work of say "Spots" and effectively say "I am Damien Hirst and I support this painting" and suddenly it is worth £100,000s?

An early work by Constable, Turner would be worth nowt? I was wandering around the National Gallery a few days back - and I do NOT think so!

There was a picture of a "Firing Squad" though - cobbled together on several panels that I wouldn't give you anything for and a hand in it belonging to someone of note - I have forgotten who - but he too (like me) seemed to be asking "Where is the rest of me?"

Oh hang on a bit. Here is Mister Hirst!

"I am Damien Hirst and I support this unseen hand!"

Oh that is OK then. Shark Finn soup anyone?

At least partially vindicated = Titled Cad parasite - valiantly

    Bedtime for Bozo!

I'm amazed his art went for so much and yet he's not dead.

Now there is a thought, Damien. Death as a career move and a tank of formaldehyde?

    Only kidding!

I sometimes immodestly stand back and look at all the subtexts that my ravings could be given.

None of them meant at the time but you know us pretentious ones!

As I lay expiring last night - I have a wee cold but of course it is terminal - I thought - wow. That - The Damien Hirst dirge - LOOKS clever - I could claim this or that.

Subtext of - Jaws (talking endlessly) Shark Fin - John Will I ams Cat (Leslie Phillips advert) The (Richard) Dreyfuss affair - Robert (Mugabe) Shaws things up etc.

Now hands up all those who didn't understand a word I said above! Ah that many?

Me neither. But you must admit - it does SOUND clever!

No? I'll get my coat and "bigger boat-er!"
