
Well, personally 2007 has been an interesting year. I turned thirty and decided to finally make an honest woman of Mrs D, by finally making her Mrs D (we've only been living in sin for 10 years!!). Yes it's that time of year again. A Happy New Year to you all, and here's hoping that 2008 will be half as interesting, fun and unique as 2007!!
It's been a good year for The Morningstarr*, with a large boost in our visitors and some new posters - We welcome you all... And there are hopefully some new and exciting plans for 2008, but lets not talk about that now, it's time for a quick look back at the year we are leaving.
Going right back to the start: -
January
17th: Protests in both India and the UK due to the racism and bullying of Bollywood star Shipa Shetty ("or poppadum, or whatever 'er name is") by the 25th most famous person in the world (?) Jade Goody, in the fifth Celebrity Big Brother. The incident caused over 44,000 complaints to OfCom about the Channel 4 show. In 2008, the format of the show has been altered.
30th: Microsoft release there latest operating system "Vista", to mixed reviews and confusion over formats. Although sales of the OS rich record highs, criticism of the Digital Rights Management, Software Protection and slow file operations, many revert back to Windows XP. Microsoft are forced to continue support for the old OS XP. Did anyone say get a Mac, I didn't, it wasn't me, I was coughing...
February
3rd: Bernard Matthews finds that Avian flu has infected his 'bootiful' birds, forcing a number of extreme measures to ensure the containment of the outbreak, including the culling of birds. The result causes a loss in respect for the brand.
8th: Model, TV personality, gold digger and general-allround looney, Anna Nicole Smith dies from "combined drug intoxication". The resulting hoo-haa continues, surrounding legal battles over her will, the paternity of her daughter and where she is to be buried.
March
1st: The Swiss army - possibly armed with just multi-tool pen knives - cause a possible political scandal by invading neighbouring Liechtenstein. The incident occurred when 171 infantrymen get lost in training at night, and wonder over the Liechtenstein border. At least they weren't carrying guns...
14th: Gareth Hunt star of Upstairs, Downstairs and the Avengers, dies of pancreatic cancer. He will be bested remembered for his Nescafe adverts - well, by me at least.
April
23rd: Boris Yaltsin, first President of the Russian Federation, and big Vodka fan, dies from congestive heart failure. Russia declares the 25th of April as a public holiday in his honour.
24th: Is there life out there... Probably not, but at least we've now found another possible planet that could hold life in the form of 'Gliese 581c' in the Libra constellation.
May
3rd: The disappearance of Madeleine McCann sparks a media frenzy and International witch hunt for a killer/abductor/scapegoat. Currently the four year old girl is still missing.
10th: Tony Blair announces that he will resign from his post as Prime Minister on the 27th June, triggering a Labour Party Leadership Election.
June
18th: Bernard Manning, British Comedian best known for his "racist" jokes - much like this years Celebrity Big Brother - dies in a North Manchester hospital. Thank munch for that - it's what he would have wanted...
24th: Gordon Brown announced as Tony Blair's successor as Prime Minister.
27th: Tony Blair resigns from 10 Downing Street. Gordon Brown moves in, makes himself at home.
July
1st: A full smoking ban in public and work places comes into effect in the UK. Pub and Club go'ers across the nation complain that without the smell of smoke, "bars smell of stale beer and piss". Nice!!!
Also, 1st: The Concert for Diana is held at Wembley Stadium, to commemorate the Princess of Wales.
21st: The final instalment in the popular JK Rowling Harry Potter series is released. Selling more than million copies in the first 24 hours. And I still haven't finished it because I got bored half way through - so don't spoil it for me...
29th: Mike Reid, Cockney Comedian best known as Frank Butcher, dies in Spain from a heart attack aged 67. Regular forumer SFB disappears leading to suspicion (well, by me, mainly) that they are one and the same person...
August
1st: Scouts all over the world begin celebrations for the 100th birthday of scouting. Did you all get your neckers out and your woggles on? (I don't know what I'm talking about)
4th: The Phoenix Spacecraft, a robotic space probe, launches on its mission towards the Mars north pole. It will land on May 25th 2008.
10th: Anthony H Wilson, "Mr Manchester", journalist for Granada tonight, co-founder of Factory Records and manager of the Hacienda nightclub, dies in Christies Hospital in Manchester. Although suffering from renal cancer, which Chemotherapy had been ineffective against, he died of an unrelated heart attack.
September
7th: The 2007 Rugby (egg chasing) World Cup starts in France - we didn't win, so lets just leave it shall we...
10th: Body Shop founder Dame Anita Roddick, dies from a brain haemorrhage.
October
1st: The legal age for purchasing tobacco is raised from 16 to 18. People complain that it was a very silent campaign.
20th: South Africa defeat England in the Rugby World Cup Final. Shit! I said leave it.
Also, 20th: Start of the Southern California wildfires resulting in the evacuation of over 1,000,000 people and the destruction of 1,600 homes and businesses. Governor Schwarzenegger vows they will get the people involved - and he is the Terminator. I'd be shitting myself...
November
5th: The Writers Guild of America go on strike. Currently it is estimated the strike has cost the American entertainment industry 500 million dollars.
20th: Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs admits they 'misplaced' two computer discs of child benefits claimants details, leaving 7.25 million households open to "identity theft" - the new game for 2008 for all the family to play.
30th: Evel Knievel, daredevil and absolute nut job, dies after a long bout of deteriorating health. Ironically, it wasn't one of his stunts that killed him. He was 69 years old.
December
10th: Led Zeppelin reunite for a Ahmet Ertegun tribute concert.
12th: Ike Turner, American Musician, talent scout and ex-husband to Tina Turner, dies at his home in California. He will be best remembered as a drug addict and a wife beater - according to The Metro newspaper. Spiteful rascals!
21st: Queen Elizabeth II becomes the oldest ever monarch. Older, even than Queen Victoria who lived for 81 years, 7 months and 29 days.
